The world never stands still. Neither does your appetite for exploring it. The same holds true for the vehicle designed and equipped to follow your lead. For 2012, on top of Equinox's existing impressive fuel efficiency, exemplary safety and top-flight functionality, there are some new features that enhance your entertainment, connectivity and visibility. Your world awaits.
How do you engineer a vehicle as capable as Equinox to deliver a 6.1 L/100 km highway fuel consumption rating that beats the Toyota RAV4?1 You employ advanced engine management technologies like Direct Injection and Variable Valve Timing (VVT). Then you add to the fuel efficiency of the standard 182 hp 2.4L ECOTEC® 4-cylinder engine with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission that includes an ECO button that helps Equinox achieve an impressive 9.2 L/100 km city rating.1
Equinox has the built-in flexibility needed to move with you. Its functionality includes an available programmable power rear liftgate that can be set to stop at a specific height to prevent it from hitting overhead obstacles. Useful, yes. Can you find it on Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, or Ford Escape? No. Open the rear liftgate and open up a substantial 1,803 L (63.7 cu. ft.) of space with the rear seats folded down. Even with the rear seats in position, Equinox still provides an impressive 872 L (30.8 cu. ft.) of space. The standard Multi-Flex® rear seats add to the versatility, with their ability to slide forward or backward up to 200 mm (7.9") to provide best-in-class4 second-row legroom or to expand the cargo area.
All Equinox models feature the available sure-footedness of a technologically advanced intelligent all-wheel drive system to help you through the challenges of driving in a wide range of conditions that can be encountered on Canadian roads. This intelligent system constantly monitors road conditions and driver inputs in order to send the appropriate amount of torque to the rear wheels. As a result you get traction and handling that is optimal for existing surface conditions. Looking for legitimate performance and all-weather traction from a crossover vehicle? You're on the right track with Equinox.
The new sound system on LT and LTZ models features a 178 mm (7") colour touch-screen display. It supports all the sound system functions — it even shows the album art for the song you are playing on one of 130 channels of XM Satellite RadioTM2 that is included. The system also has a USB port with full display on the screen for your iPod® or other MP3 player. The screen is also used to display the images from the Rear Vision Camera that is now standard on all LT and LTZ models. It enables you to see objects behind you when you are backing up. As you can see, calling this sound system a radio just doesn't do it justice.
It's not just the Rear Vision Camera, on LT and LTZ models, that helps you see the unseen. The newly available forward collision alert uses a forward facing camera to continually monitor proximity of vehicles in front and, when it detects a potential collision based on closing speed, provides the driver with an audible alert. Combine this with a lane departure warning system that actually reads the lines on the road and provides a visual and audible alert if the driver strays into another lane without signaling. Further reassurance comes from the fact Equinox earned a coveted 2011 Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick.3
